Razer Megalodon BETA firmware installation problems?

Struggling with the installation?
I found that my installation automatically updated from Windows update instead of letting me browse for the directory of the firmware i wish to use…
And each time I plugged into the same usb port more than once – the driver update wouldn’t initialize either as if that usb port was caching the fact that the install had been “successful”.
I did get around this, please follow this at your own risk though!
My Fix
First of all… Delete all remaining extracted folders containing the old firmware (if you updated in the past so that Windows wont automatically use these).
Secondly, disconnect yourself from the internet entirely (this is for windows update to fail – this shouldn’t be entirely necessary – but just for safety).
And thirdly, open up your audio device driver properties for the Megalodon through Control Panel and uninstall the current drivers for the Megalodon. To do this, follow the following instructions…
Once you have uninstalled the driver, unplug the Megalodon – plug it back in… and get back to the above screen… click “Update Driver…“

Finally, now you can click manually browse to the BETA firmware drivers by selecting "Browse my computer for driver software"
Once you select the directory it will warn you it is untrusted as this is a beta release. After installing the beta firmware, you may finally remove the Megalodon and plug in again as specified in Step 4 of this article…

This isnt working for me. Ive even go as far as turning UAC all the way back on. and uninstalling in device manager.
Hi @Vertigo042,
I did this on Windows 7 64 bit, so if you are using Vista the steps might be slightly different.
If you were able to remove the drivers, but when plugging in the device Windows is automatically using the old ones – try using a new port, as I found Windows was remembering which USB port I plugged into each time. Very strange, but it happens.
I wrote a comment in the ‘main’ thread about not being able to do this.
I have finally managed to sort it out. Please take this in the spirit it’s meant as I’ve found you threads on this invaluable.
Following the instructions both you and Razer provided gave me no joy whatsoever. Instead:
I had to be logged on as Administrator (not stated in either sets of instructions and needed for the bit about using Device Manager). I had to use a ‘fresh’ USB port for each attempt – four off – (what utter rubbish – MS had better provide a method for resetting this soon). The point at which you plug the device in with the central button pressed resulted in a ‘Failed to install’ message and no option to ‘browse’ for another location to use. There was no device present in Sounds, however in Device Manager there was an entry for ‘Megalodon Firmware upgrade’ and it is here that you need to select ‘Install Driver’ and point it at the downloaded folder. That then gives you the DFU driver install prompt that Razer says you need.
I still had an issue when attempting to run the firmware upgrade in that the natty little Razer box failed to render properly showing an outsized progress bar and no option ‘buttons’. By luck hitting was taken as saying OK (twice). Tried various resolutions and refresh rates – have not clue why this would be.
The missing bit – for me – was that you were supposed to be installing a driver for the FIRMWARE UPDATE, which will be created as a NEW device in Device Manager. It has nothing at all to do with the sound drivers installed for the Megalodon sound.
You’re on way better terms with Razer than I am, perhaps if you find my comments useful you’d be good enough to pass them on. I’ve tried twice to comment on their driver update page and not had them shown/approved.
Now to see if it works.
hmm – fifth paragrap in, talking about the Razer Updare dialog box. I must have used disallowed characters; there’s supposed to be the word ENTER in the ‘By luck hitting… ENTER… was’
@Dax Frost
Yah I was using 7 64 as well. Ill try that. Thanks. Also did this firmware fix the tf2 and l4d static issues? Where as I was able to eliminate static in vent and cod4 etc by changing some settings it just never went away in Source games.

Here is how I finally was able to install it. Razer has some extra steps for us windows 7 users here. Thanks for all the help @DaxFrost

@champpjones
What issues are you having?

@Bruce,
You mentioned on a seperate comment on this post that it is working for you…additionally you shouldnt need to do this now that the official firmware to fix the problem is available.
Check that post for the firmware download and follow the steps.
