A Fix
Finally! After months and months, a BETA release of the firmware fix for Razer Megalodon on Windows 7 and I assume Vista 64 bit systems was here!
I have installed it on my Windows 7 64 bit system. And so far, without using a powered usb hub to fix the cut out issues, I have the pristine mic quality and perfect sound with no cutting out issues! (as one would expect by default!!!)
This fix should remove all issues for you too, but remember, this is a beta release! So if anything goes wrong, don’t blame anyone but yourself for installing it.
Myself and a few others have found this to be the solution we have all been waiting for so good luck and enjoy the fix… until we run into issues – I think we may have found a winner!
The Download
– The official release fix of the firmware -
Installation
Step 1.
Unzip the zip archive file to a folder on your computer.
Step 2.
Unplug your Megalodon, then… holding down the channel select button (i.e: the Snake logo button (Button E) in the diagram below) – plug in the Megalodon.
Step 3.
Windows should detect the device, direct the driver installation to the folder you extracted the archive to in Step 1
Step 4.
If you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7, the system will ask if you want to install the driver, press Install. It may take a few seconds for the driver installation to finish. BUT although this worked for the first official firmware update, I had issues intalling this beta, if this step completed succesfully, and you are sure the update actually used the firmware from the folder you specified – ignore this and continue to Step 5, otherwise if you were never offered the browse option… Read This!
Step 5.
Finally – browse to the directory where your beta firmware has been extracted, and right click on the firmware “Megalodon.exe” and select “Run as administrator“
Once the installation completes, unplug the Megalodon, and plug it back in again… and hope this is all over…
please leave a comment below on your outcome…

Can anyone say that for them this firmware has fixed the cutting sound out issue in Windows 7 64-bit? I really want to buy this headset but not unless the firmware is fixed. I have a EVGA P55 FTW Motherboard.
Hi @Amy,
This firmware works perfectly for me, I am running Windows 7 64 bit ultimate on a Asus P5K motherboard. This headset is also really worth buying.
cheers,
Dax
Has NOT fixed the Static problem with output. Once in a while, it still just blasts static noise to the other listeners in the ventrilo program. I’m in the process of buying a usb hub that is self powered, and hopefully that will work
