daxtop – a MXit pc client

18 June 2010 24 Comments

MXit on your desktop

A new pc client written entirely in Java, daxtop is a lightweight multi-protocol instant messenger geared originally for MXit on the desktop but holds support for multiple other protocols like Google Talk, Skype, Twitter and many more.

daxtop - Chat Tab Previews

Potentially, a  multitude of plugins (even an RSS reader, Google Talk or mp3 player) could run within daxtop instead of having many social networking applications open. This functionality is built under the hood and kept in mind for the future – however, for the moment the MXit protocol is just gaining some traction on its own.

daxtop - MXit contacts

It’s new, and independently developed here – so feature requests and  bugs can be quickly reported from the community and hopefully added or fixed just as fast. Frequent releases on an almost weekly basis are made available on http://www.daxtop.com and a notification will popup when running the client which can be clicked on for the update.

daxtop - MXit contacts

Over 20 themes are available to pick from, light – dark – bright – round – square… head on over and download daxtop to try it out for yourself.

    This is the best desktop client to come MXit’s way since pidgin. I hope you will be adding more gateways though.

    I don’t know why MXit never went this avenue when it came to a pc client. Thanks so much for this brill app

    @Cleftangels

    Thanks for the support Cleftangels,

    New networks will be out soon while finalizing all the oustanding MXit features…

    I released 1.1.0 with multiple concurrent MXit connections in each daxtop account, view profile capability, the beginnings of group context menus and tons of internal upgrades and fixes.

    Due to the massive account level subsystem change you will lose your profile configuration…

    Hi

    Great work Dax, I think this is by far one of the best applications out there for MXit, thanks for your hard work we appreciate it

    Hey Dax

    I can’t connect due to the proxy on my network. Is there a way to enter the address, port and authentication details?

    Looks awesome though!

    @newbie

    Hi,

    I am fairly sure its that by default daxtop up till now requires atleast 1024MB of ram.

    I have removed this requirement and the new release should work for you. You can download the next release tomorrow night. Monday 8pm the 6th of September 2010

    Hey Dax I have been looking at the comments on here, and I agree with them fully, you have really done an excellent job here. I have one question tho, for some reason when i minimize the main window ( not the chat side of things with tabs and all ) the part where your online contacts is shown, i cannot restore it, having to exit daxtop and restarting the application.

    @Newbie and Dax on September 5th. I have just blew the dust of a pentuim two that i have here at home, with 512 MB of RAM. Loaded java and tried it out, no problem. In my opinion newbie the best for you would be to update your java, or to reinstall it.

    Also dax, dont know if you are working on this, but the additional emoticons would be nice, like those that can be bought at tradepost. Im not as advanced as you are in java programming, but i know a fair deal, so il be crunching your program to the limits man.

    Loving it so far, keep it up

    hey. i have a problem, Daxtop runs, but when i open it, i cant c my screen, my contacts list or chat…can sumone plz help Ive tried to uninstall it on several occasions and reinstall, but that dusnt work. Help!

  • http://www.daxfrost.com Dax Frost

    @Nick

    Try logging in just once with a mobile client and use daxtop again.

    If that doesn’t fix your problem, delete the following folder: “C:\Users\{YOUR USERNAME}\AppData\Local\daxtop

    Please be aware that you should only delete this if you are comfortable losing your daxtop user data… this means your configurations will be lost.

  • Anietie

    great work Dax Frost.
    your client doesn’t hug my pc resources like evo.

    thanks for your goo work

  • Anietie

    Hi Dax. I love daxtop. I downloaded it today and used it and it was fun. Please I have a question. When daxtop says “Connection to MXit failed please check your connection… Try again?” and I am correctly and perfectly connected to the internet and my firewall is set to allow connections using port 9119, what could be wrong?

  • Anietie

    Ok, after playing in the forums, I learned that there was a scheduled downtime. I think that is responsible for my inability to log in.

  • http://www.daxfrost.com Dax Frost

    @Anietie

    Yes, there was scheduled downtime.

    Thanks all, glad it makes your MXit experience worthwhile.

  • Anietie

    I just noticed that even though i change the default skin, when i restart daxtop, the old skin remains. Also there seems to be no way to save chats to gallery in daxtop. Am I correct? Please check these issue out. All the same, daxtop remains a very efficient client.
